Primary Election
The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.

Voter Registration
Pre-registration deadline for voter registration closes at 5:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2026. Persons wishing to participate in this election who register to vote after May 18, 2026, will be required to provide proof of identification (i.e. current and valid photo identification card with an expiration date), AND proof of residency in their voting precinct, when they go to the polls on election day, or when they request an absentee ballot. Other provisions may also apply. Persons not registered to vote by May 18, 2026, should expect a longer processing time at the polls on election day.
Absentee Ballots
Absentee Ballots will be available beginning Wednesday, May 13, 2026 for mail ballots and in-person voting.
- March 24, 2026 is the first day an absentee ballot request form may be submitted for the Primary Election. Click here for a Primary Election Absentee Ballot request form.
- The last day an absentee ballot may be mailed to a voter for this election is Monday, May 18, 2026. (Postal delivery is now two to five days each way.)
- In-person absentee voting in the office of the Ringgold County Auditor closes at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026.
- Requests for absentee ballots must be in writing and should be mailed or delivered to:

Voted absentee ballots returned by mail MUST be returned no later than 8:00 p.m. on ELECTION DAY, Tuesday, June 2, 2026 to be considered on time to be counted. Voters are advised to keep in mind that postal delivery is now two to five days.
Extended Hours
Extended and Saturday hours are available for voter registration and absentee voting in the Ringgold County Auditor’s Office. In addition to regular hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., extended office hours during the 2026 primary election season will be as follows:
- Friday, March 20 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thursday, April 16 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, May 18 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday, May 29 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday, May 30 - 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 2 - 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.* or later, depending on election activities
- Wednesday, June 10 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
